Good Power Platform governance gives teams a safe route to build and improve solutions. It should clarify where work belongs, how it moves between environments, who can use connectors and how operational issues are detected.
The 2026 release wave 1 governance plan includes changes across source integration, enterprise administration, adoption insight and operational health. These features are useful prompts for reviewing the operating model already in place.
Five areas to review
- Environment purpose: define development, test and production boundaries and reduce dependence on the default environment.
- Application lifecycle: use solutions, source control and repeatable deployment for supported applications.
- Maker enablement: give makers standards, reusable components and a clear escalation route.
- Usage and capacity: connect adoption data to licence, capacity and support decisions.
- Operational health: monitor failures, performance, ownership and unsupported dependencies.
Microsoft lists GitHub source-code integration in preview for August 2026, movement of apps from the default environment for general availability in September, a new Usage page for August, and additional operational-health detection in preview.
Minimum governance artefacts
- An environment and data policy
- A solution classification model
- Named owners for production applications and flows
- Release, backup and recovery procedures
- Monitoring and support expectations
- A regular portfolio review
Apply more control as business impact, data sensitivity and operational dependency increase. Avoid treating every maker experiment like a production system—or every production system like an experiment.
